Neustar representatives attended the second annual Internet Governance Forum USA (IGF-USA) which took place on July 21, 2010 at the Georgetown Law Center in Washington, DC.
The forum addressed issues such as collaboration in our approach to DNS security issues; the safety of youth online; cloud computing; and Internet governance. A panel of moderators discussed the likelihood of three potential scenarios for the Internet by the year 2020: Global Government (strict oversight of online content and e-commerce); Internet Islands (corporate, government and individual entities create fences around groups of users, whether to protect them or censor their Internet experience); and Users Reign (major breakthroughs in automated translation and the proliferation of mobile devices bring millions more to the Internet and to social networking sites. Users generate and control most of the content on the Internet.).
IGF-USA is a multi-stakeholder effort to illuminate issues and cultivate constructive discussions about the future of the Internet. It provides a domestic forum in the US to engage civil society, government, technologists, research scientists, industry and academia, helping to create partnerships, coalitions and dialogues that demonstrate best practices and help move policy forward.
